Pop the Price Etsy Application Copy

Pop the Price is a buyer-discovery shopping trivia game. A shopper sees one eligible product and a fictional Price Pop Guess, then guesses whether the product's real current price is higher or lower.

Short Product Description

After the answer, the game reveals the current price and can optionally let the user open the original listing. The product is designed to drive interested shoppers back to Etsy listings through user-initiated discovery, not to replace Etsy shopping, checkout, seller analytics, or seller management tools.

Application Purpose

Pop the Price uses product discovery as an entertainment format. For Etsy, the intended benefit is incremental buyer discovery and traffic back to Etsy listings. The app does not scrape Etsy pages, automate seller actions, reproduce Etsy checkout, copy Etsy's look and feel, or provide marketplace intelligence to undercut sellers.

Requested Data Fields

  • Listing title
  • Primary listing image
  • Current price
  • Currency
  • Listing state or availability
  • Etsy listing URL
  • Shop/listing identifiers
  • Data retrieval timestamp

Current Prototype State

The public prototype uses mock/demo products only. Live Etsy marketplace data is not enabled. Shopping links are disabled while the API configuration reports mock mode or shopping disabled. Mock products are labeled Demo Only and never show a View Product button.

OAuth And Security

The first public-listing prototype does not require private seller scopes. If scoped Etsy member access is needed later, Pop the Price will use OAuth 2.0 Authorization Code with PKCE, HTTPS redirect URLs, minimum required scopes, and secure server-side token handling.

Caching And Freshness

Pop the Price will respect Etsy content freshness requirements. Listing content will not be displayed when it is older than six hours relative to Etsy, and other Etsy content will not be displayed when older than twenty-four hours. Cached data will be retained only as long as reasonably necessary to provide the game experience.

Compliance Commitments

  • No scraping, browser automation, or unofficial Etsy marketplace extraction.
  • No cart, checkout, WebView, automatic redirect, simulated click, price history, or price alert.
  • No seller private metrics, receipts, orders, messages, buyer private data, or shop analytics.
  • No Etsy data use for marketplace intelligence, resale, analytics extraction, AI training, or machine learning.
  • View Product remains optional, post-reveal, and user-initiated for eligible non-mock products only.
  • Stale, unavailable, unpriced, invalid, mock-only, or non-HTTPS product records are suppressed.

Suggested Form Answers

What does your application do?

Pop the Price is a buyer-discovery shopping trivia game. A user sees one eligible product and a fictional "Price Pop Guess," answers whether the real current price is higher or lower, and then sees the reveal. If shopping is enabled and the product is eligible, the user may choose to open the original listing after the reveal. The app is designed to drive interested buyers back to Etsy listings and does not replace Etsy checkout.

How will your application use Etsy API data?

The app will use approved Etsy Open API v3 access to retrieve only public listing data needed to create game rounds: listing title, image, current price, currency, listing state/availability, listing URL, shop/listing identifiers, and retrieval timestamp. The app will reject stale, unavailable, unpriced, invalid, or noncompliant products before display.

Who are the users?

The first users are shoppers playing a solo product-discovery game. Sellers are not required to connect accounts for the first prototype. If seller-facing features are added later, they will go through separate scope review and use OAuth 2.0 with PKCE.

What data do you store?

The browser stores only local gameplay session state such as score, streak, coins, current round progress, selected answer, reveal state, and favorites metadata. Backend analytics may store gameplay events and favorite identifiers such as retailer and retailer product ID. The app does not store Etsy credentials, seller private data, buyer private data, receipts, orders, messages, or shop analytics.

How does your app benefit Etsy?

Pop the Price creates an entertainment-based discovery path that can expose shoppers to eligible Etsy listings they may not have searched for directly. After a user engages with a product in the game, the app can send interested users back to the original Etsy listing through an optional user-initiated action. This supports traffic back to Etsy rather than diverting checkout or replacing Etsy shopping.

How do you prevent scraping or misuse?

The application uses only approved API/feed paths and does not scrape Etsy pages, automate browser activity, mass collect marketplace data, or use Etsy data for marketplace intelligence, analytics resale, AI training, or machine learning. Product data is validated for freshness, availability, price, image, URL, and source before display.

Do you use OAuth?

The first buyer-discovery prototype does not need private seller scopes. If scoped Etsy access is needed later, the app will use OAuth 2.0 Authorization Code with PKCE, HTTPS callback URLs, minimum required scopes, and secure server-side token handling.

Do you redirect users to Etsy automatically?

No. Pop the Price never auto-redirects users. View Product appears only after a reveal, only for eligible non-mock products, and only when remote configuration enables shopping. Opening a listing requires an explicit user tap.

Does your app include checkout?

No. Pop the Price does not include checkout, cart, WebViews, simulated clicks, automatic redirects, price alerts, price history, or purchase automation. Any purchase happens on the original retailer site after the user chooses to leave the game.
